For our UX-design class, we were encouraged to create a product that utilized sensor devices. To combat a growing mental health epidemic, we came up with Atom. Atom is a skin-sensor that helps people discover the subconscious triggers behind their positive and negative mental states.

Atom Commercial Script

OPEN WITH:     White Screen. Sound of ticking clock.

FADE IN:           It’s still dark outside. SHERRI, (41, depressed, telemarketer) is warming her hands over a mug of coffee. and staring at a package she received in the     mail. Camera zooms, in then freezes the frame.

FX:                    Clock stops ticking.

V.O:      Do you ever wish you could change your life?

[Sherri rips open package, First person view to establish a product shot, Sherri applies Atom to her arm and walks out of scene.]

SLATE:    BLACK

FX:         Sound of car engine starting.

MUSIC:    Terry Riley - A rainbow in curved air

[The garage door closes as Sherri pulls out of the driveway]

V.O:       But find yourself repeating the same patterns,

[Sherri’s stuck in traffic on her way to work. She screams at a driver,“Oh come on!” (no audio) and smacks the steering wheel.]

V/O:       cycles,

[Sherri eats TV dinner and watches NEWS television with screaming pundits]

V.O:       and behaviours?

[Sherri smokes a cigarette on the balcony]

V/O:        Depression and anxiety have a way of creeping  into our lives unnoticed. And although our brains can process over 400 billion bits of

information per second, we’re only conscious of about 2,000 bits of that information at any given moment.

V/O:        So if you want to create real change…   You have to dig deeper…

V.O:        Into your subconscious mind.

V.O:        Your subconscious mind controls your recurrent thoughts, patterns, behaviors, habits, and feelings.

V.O:        And only once you become aware of the underlying factors affecting your subconscious feelings,

[Sherri glances over the Atom App and sees data charts chronicling her day]

V.O:        can you begin to make the proper changes you need to live a happier life.

[Sherri riding a bicycle, chopping vegetables, practicing meditation breathing exercises, and playing guitar on couch in front of TV she’s kept OFF]

V.O:        And although you can’t mentally access what’s outside of your conscious mind,

V.O:         Your body can.

V.O:          Because your body behaves like a mirror to your mind.

[Some kind of visual aid]

V.O:        Our bodies produce subtle reactions that correspond to how we  feel in our environments, interactions, and experiences, we’re not consciously aware of.

[Visual Examples]

V/O:        And by identifying the subconscious  triggers stimulating these positive and  negative emotions in your body, you can change your life, by changing your                  behavior.

V:O:        That’s why we’ve created Atom.

[INSERT MOTION GRAPHICS, etc.]

V:O:        Atom is a skin sensor that calculates positive and negative mental states to help you identify the unconscious triggers stimulating your current state                          of mind.

V:O:        Simply apply Atom to your skin - like a sticker - sync it up to your smartphone, and then forget about it.   As you go about your day, Atom will begin                           calculating your brainwaves, heart rate, skin temperature, motion based activity, nervous system arousal, and vocal tonalities to determine the                                     circumstances surrounding emotional peaks in your mental state, throughout your environments, relationships, behaviors and activities.

You can view this data inside the Atom App, through in-depth data charts categorized by a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis.

[Visual Aid]

V:O:      And everyday, with a simple glance, Atom will state the overall percentage of your current positive and negative mental states.

So while your percentages fluctuate, you can compare the results to the changes you’ve made over time, and use Atom as compass to

guide yourself to a happier life.

V:O:      Because who can teach you more about yourself, than you?

T/L:       Atom. Sense Yourself.
